WELCOME TO YOUR CAMERA CLUB FOR THE EAST SUFFOLK REGION
Promoting photography as a hobby & helping you to develop the skills you'll need to be able to create breathtaking images.

OUR ETHOS

The East Ipswich Camera Club has been running for over 40 years and is a small, friendly club. Our aim is to promote photography as a hobby and to help our members to become better photographers. It is not all about the camera equipment: it is the artistry of our images that counts.

According to Dr Max Thorek, "Once that faint, first spark of interest in photography as a hobby has been struck, one will find that it may best be fanned by the stimulation of contact  with other kindred spirits. For that reason, membership in a camera club is essential." At EICC, we aim to provide that stimulating and supportive environment.

CAPTURING LIFE'S MOMENTS

As a member of EICC, you will be able to share and enjoy your photography with like-minded people in a warm, friendly and supportive environment. Big cameras and long lenses are not strictly necessary: you can use your mobile phone's camera, if you wish. Chase Jarvis, talking about the iPhone, said, "The best camera is the one that's with you!"

We run photo competitions, social activities, learning events and invite distinguished photographers as guest speakers.

Photographers of all levels are welcome - beginners, too! So, if you enjoy photography or wish to learn, why not get in touch? To find out more about EICC, simply use the contact form at the bottom of the page to register your interest.

ABOUT US

We meet at the Tower Hall (Broadlands Way, Rushmere St Andrew, Ipswich) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday evenings of each month from September to June, although a few meetings are via Zoom instead of at the hall. The meetings start at 7.30pm and finish by 10pm. Membership costs £60 a year and is open to anyone aged 18 or over. However, you can initially come along as a visitor for a guest fee of £3 per evening to see if you would like to join. There is free car parking at the hall and refreshments are available to purchase at each meeting (we accept cash only at the moment).

HOW WE COMPETE

Competition entry is encouraged, but not compulsory. There are five Normal Competitions each season, and these are divided into four:

  • Alde - for PDIs submitted to the Open Subject competition
  • Deben - for prints submitted to the Set Subject competition
  • Orwell - for prints submitted to the Open Subject competition
  • Stour - for PDIs submitted to the Set Subject competition
  • Set subject themes are set at the end of the preceding season. PDIs are projected digital images.

In addition, we have five special competitions across the year:

  • Picture Trail - sets of six PDIs taken at a nominated venue at the start of the season
  • Creative Eye - creative PDIs (composites permitted) on an Open Subject
  • Skylark Salver - prints of the Natural World
  • Black & White - prints & PDIs based on a Set Subject
  • East Ipswich Challenge - prints & PDIs - panels of three images on an Open Subject

Points are awarded in each competition, and at the end of the year, the winners of the Alde, Deben, Orwell and Stour Cups receive their prizes, as do the winners of the Special Competitions. There is also an overall Photographer of the Year prize for the photographer who amasses the most points across the entire season. Prizes are presented on the evening of our Annual AGM in June.

EICC also puts images into several Interclub Competitions, and from time to time, we play host to one or more of these.

One of the main reasons for entering club competitions is the valuable and helpful feedback given by our judges. It's a great way to improve your photography!
